Dilworth is an established historic residential neighborhood roughly a mile south of Uptown Charlotte, with high owner-occupancy, a long-running neighborhood association, and housing stock that residents have invested in heavily since the preservation movement of the 1970s. Those are real, verifiable characteristics, and they are the kind of thing people are usually trying to learn when they type the question into a search bar.
What we will not do is convert that into a rating. Dilworth contains a busy commercial corridor, a major hospital campus, an interstate edge, and quiet interior blocks where the loudest thing is a lawnmower. Averaging those into one grade produces a number that describes none of them. Sites that publish such grades typically reuse a dated extract and layer their own weighting on top — which is why two of them will confidently tell you opposite things about the same street.

The distinction that actually matters
If you take one thing from this page, make it this: Dilworth's interior and Dilworth's edges are different environments, and most confusion about the neighborhood comes from treating them as one.
The interior — the residential blocks around Latta Park and through the historic grid — is quiet, low-traffic and residential nearly around the clock. The edges are not. The Atrium Health campus generates round-the-clock shift traffic and parking pressure. East Boulevard is a commercial street with restaurant closing hours and non-resident visitors. The I-277 edge carries noise and through-movement. The South End boundary brings the density and nightlife of a very different kind of district right up against historic houses.
None of that is a warning. It is the normal texture of a close-in urban neighborhood, and it is inseparable from the reasons people want to live here. But it means a block two streets in from a boundary can feel materially different from one on it — which is exactly why the answer to "is Dilworth safe" has to be gathered at the block level.
